Ronald Holliman, an 18-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on June 4, 2014, in Chicago, Illinois. The 17-year-old sustained a graze wound to the right hip but declined medical treatment at the scene.
The investigation into Ronald Holliman's death led to the arrest of Reginald Jackson, a 27-year-old man, who was charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting. Jackson was initially arrested on June 8, 2014, for felony illegal handgun possession and unlawful use of a weapon after police found him and two other men in a car with two 9 mm handguns. These weapons were later linked to the shooting through ballistic tests. Jackson was subsequently charged with murder after the weapons charges were dropped. He was held on $600,000 bail.
The case against Jackson revealed that the shooting was a targeted attack. The gunmen had approached the group from an alley and fired multiple shots, hitting Holliman and the other victims. Evidence collected at the scene included numerous shell casings from three different guns: two 9 mm pistols and a .45-caliber pistol. The investigation also uncovered that Jackson had faced felony weapons charges twice since the day of the shooting, further implicating him in the crime.
