Believing that Antonio was warning their intended targets, Derrick Allmon, a 19-year-old gang member, shot him multiple times, fatally wounding him.
The investigation into Antonio's death led to the arrest of four individuals: Derrick Allmon, Michael D. Baker, Jabari Williams, and Paris Denard, all aged 19 at the time. These men were charged with first-degree murder, with Williams also facing charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. The suspects were members of the same gang and were driving around looking to shoot members of a rival gang when they encountered Antonio. Allmon, who had a prior conviction for unlawful use of a weapon, was identified as the shooter. He discarded the murder weapon into a nearby sewer, from which it was later recovered by the police.

The investigation revealed that the same gun used to kill Antonio had been used in two other shootings, including another murder.
