On August 27, 2025, in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, Deneal P. Maxey, age 19, a male, was standing near a sidewalk on the 5200 block of West Gladys Avenue when two people approached and opened fire. He was struck in the head and multiple times in the body, taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and pronounced dead shortly thereafter; an autopsy ruled the death a homicide.
