On August 18, 2015, Quenton "Q" Demarco Lowe, a 21-year-old African American male from Peoria, Illinois, was fatally shot multiple times outside a residence in the 1600 block of Great Oak Road at the Pierson Hills apartment complex. The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m., leading to his untimely death.
Born on February 4, 1994, in Peoria, Quenton was the son of Arthur and Laginia Lowe. He graduated from Manual High School in 2012, where he was an active member of the basketball team.
Pursuing his passion for basketball, he attended Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield and Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby. Professionally, Quenton worked as a cashier at Kroger and later as a cook at McDonald's. He was also a dedicated member of Kingdom Temple C.O.G.I.C., participating in the Youth Men of Integrity and Youth Department.
In the aftermath of Quenton's death, 19-year-old Darrell Brown was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. The prosecution revealed that the fatal shooting stemmed from a dispute over a dice game. In January 2017, a jury found Brown guilty on all charges related to Quenton's death. He faced a sentencing range of 35 to 75 years in prison.
Quenton is survived by his parents; his daughter, Ki'Yah Lowe; his grandmother, Betty Blocker; three brothers, Arthur, Timothy, and Malik Lowe; and three sisters, Kanieca, Kimberly, and LeeAnne Lowe, all of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene Thompson, Elizabeth Moore, and Johnnie Jamison. A funeral service was held on August 27, 2015, at the Church of the Living God, Temple 130, in Peoria, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory.
