Tyshawn Micheal Lee, a 9-year-old African American boy, was tragically murdered on November 2, 2015, in Chicago, Illinois. Tyshawn was lured from a playground into an alley with the promise of a treat, where he was then shot multiple times at close range. This brutal act was part of a gang-related retaliation, as Tyshawn's father, Pierre Stokes, was allegedly involved in a rival gang.
