Sherman Jumper, a 72-year-old African American male, passed away on December 16, 2015, in Belleville, Illinois. He was a retired East St. Louis police captain who had dedicated nearly three decades of his life to serving the community. His death was the result of a tragic accident involving a small handgun that discharged while he was carrying it inside a bag. This unfortunate incident occurred in Swansea, Illinois, where he resided with his family.
