Chureno "Cheno" Gatewood, an 18-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on July 17, 2016, in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred around 11:25 a.m. when officers responded to a shooting in the 5700 block of South Union. Gatewood had been shot in the upper chest and was transported to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:45 a.m. He resided in Gary, Indiana, but was in Chicago at the time of the shooting.
