Mahadi Hering, a 19-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on August 27, 2016, in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood of Chicago, IL. The incident occurred just after midnight when Mahadi and a 16-year-old boy were standing outside a meat market on the corner of 71st and Rhodes Avenue. As they crossed the street, a voice called them "cowards," prompting them to return and engage in a physical altercation with two other boys.
