Takiya Holmes, an 11-year-old African American girl, tragically lost her life on February 11, 2017, in Chicago, Illinois. Takiya was struck by a stray bullet while sitting in her family's minivan in the Washington Park neighborhood. The bullet, fired by Antwan Jones, a member of the Black Disciples street gang, was intended for rival gang members selling marijuana nearby. Takiya was hit in the head and succumbed to her injuries after being taken off life support a few days later.
