Darelle Lewis, a 24-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on July 27, 2018, in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. The incident occurred around 11:55 p.m. in the 5300 block of South Marshfield Avenue. According to police reports, a witness saw Tykwon Davis, a 21-year-old male, approach Lewis from behind and shoot him in the chest and back before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Tykwon Davis was later identified as the shooter and was arrested on March 22, 2019, in the 6800 block of South Green Street. He faces a felony count of first-degree murder for the killing of Darelle Lewis. Additionally, Davis was charged with a misdemeanor count of violating his annual gun offender registration. He was due in bond court the following day.
