On November 27, 2016, Demontris Toliver, aged 25, was fatally shot in a mass shooting on Bourbon Street, New Orleans. The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. near the corner of Bourbon and Iberville Streets during Bayou Classic Weekend, a popular annual event. Demontris, a tattoo artist from Baton Rouge and a former New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) student, was visiting to celebrate his birthday. The incident left nine others injured.
