Stefan Plummer, a 22-year-old African American male from Glenwood, Illinois, was fatally shot on December 27, 2019, in Harvey, Illinois. The investigation into Stefan Plummer's death revealed that the shooting stemmed from an argument over the quality of marijuana during a street deal. Nicholas Robertson, a 20-year-old male, was identified as the suspect in the case. According to prosecutors, Plummer and another individual had driven to the location to purchase marijuana from Robertson. An argument ensued between Plummer and Robertson over the quality of the marijuana. Robertson allegedly went back into his home to retrieve the marijuana and, upon returning to the vehicle, continued the argument. During this confrontation, Robertson pulled out a handgun and shot Plummer. Plummer attempted to flee but was struck by a single gunshot and collapsed in the street.
Following the shooting, Robertson allegedly ordered a witness to drive him to an apartment in Riverdale. A witness later identified Robertson by his nickname and picked him out of a photo lineup. Robertson was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder. During a court hearing, it was revealed that Robertson had made a videotaped confession. Despite having no prior adult criminal record, Robertson had previous juvenile arrests for battery, domestic battery, and unlawful use of a weapon. He was denied bail and remained in custody awaiting trial.
