Malik Z. Thames-El, a 22-year-old Black/African American male, was shot on the night of April 16, 2020, while sitting in a parked vehicle on the 5200 block of West Newport Avenue in Chicago's Portage Park neighborhood. Around 9:20 p.m., an assailant walked up and opened fire; a friend rushed him to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner identified him as Nayya Malik Z.
