Devan L. Jones, a 30-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on May 29, 2019, in the Chatham neighborhood of Chicago, IL. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 1:53 a.m. They found Jones in the vestibule of a building located in the 7800 block of South Indiana Avenue. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head, chest, and abdomen.
Despite being rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, Jones was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Jones resided in the Gresham neighborhood and was well-known in his community. The circumstances surrounding his death were immediately classified as a homicide, prompting an investigation by Area South detectives. However, a black Chrysler sedan was seen fleeing the area at high speed, which has been a focal point in the ongoing investigation.
