Walter Sr. Velez, aged 26, was killed on November 10, 2014, in Chicago. His homicide occurred during a time when the city was experiencing elevated levels of gun violence, although overall homicide rates in 2014 were slightly down compared to previous years. Walter Velez was remembered by his family, including his son and girlfriend, and his death left a significant impact on the community.
