Death by Force

Mekhi James, a 3-year-old African American boy, tragically lost his life on June 20, 2020, in Chicago, IL. Mekhi was fatally shot while riding in a car with his stepfather in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when a blue Honda SUV pulled up alongside their vehicle and opened fire. Mekhi was struck in the back and was pronounced dead at the hospital. His stepfather, who was driving the car, suffered a graze wound to the abdomen.
