Shatia S. Brooks, a 33-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on October 23, 2020, in Decatur, Illinois. Shatia, who was pregnant at the time, was found dead in her home on the 1400 block of East Hickory Street. The Macon County Coroner, Michael E. Day, confirmed that her cause of death was a penetrating gunshot wound to the head, which involved the skull and brain. This devastating incident not only claimed Shatia's life but also that of her unborn son.
