On Valentine's Day of 2026, a Decatur, Illinois woman, 26-year-old Alexandra Wilson, was fatally shot in a tragic incident that authorities have described as an accidental shooting. The event unfolded at approximately 5:30 p.m. inside a residence located in the 1700 block of North Summit Avenue. What was meant to be a day of celebration turned into a scene of loss and a subsequent criminal investigation.
According to police reports, Christian D. Luthy, 25, made a 911 call reporting that he had accidentally shot a woman. When officers arrived at the home, they found Wilson with a single gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The Macon County Coroner later identified the victim as Alexandra Wilson.
Further investigation revealed that Wilson and Luthy, who were in a relationship, were in a gaming room together. Luthy had been working on an AR-15 style rifle. He told investigators that after he finished working on the firearm, he "jokingly" pointed it at Wilson and pulled the trigger, believing the weapon was unloaded. A single round was discharged, striking Wilson in the torso.
Following questioning by the Decatur Police Department, Christian D. Luthy was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. He made his first court appearance and was subsequently granted a pre-trial release. Luthy is scheduled to be back in court in March for further proceedings related to the death of Alexandra Wilson.
