Prentiss M.D. Jackson Jr., an 18-year-old African American male from Champaign, Illinois, tragically lost his life on June 19, 2022. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, around 1:48 a.m., when Champaign Police responded to a report of a shooting on the 900 block of W. Bloomington Road. Upon arrival, officers found Prentiss M.D. Jackson Jr. in a vehicle, suffering from multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite being transported to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The investigation revealed that the shooting took place during an impromptu gathering in the parking lot of a local business. Alongside Prentiss M.D. Jackson Jr., two female victims also sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to their legs. Additionally, a female bystander was struck by a vehicle in the chaos that ensued following the shooting.
On June 30, 2022, Champaign Police, in collaboration with the Champaign County Street Crimes Task Force, arrested Quentin Hymon, a 20-year-old male from Champaign, in connection with the homicide. Hymon was charged with murder and remains in custody at the Champaign County Correctional Center, awaiting arraignment and trial. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to seek additional information from the public.
