On September 1, 2017, 19-year-old Brandon J. Smith, a young African American male, was fatally shot in Champaign, Illinois. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning on the 1200 Block of N. McKinley Avenue. Nearby police officers, who were already in the vicinity, heard multiple gunshots and responded immediately. Upon arrival, they found Brandon J. Smith in critical condition. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
