On July 3, 2023, Marcus A. Catchings Jr., a 27-year-old resident of Champaign, Illinois, was found unresponsive in an apartment located in the 2500 block of West Springfield Avenue. Champaign Police were dispatched to the scene at 7:06 p.m. following a report of a shooting with injuries. Upon arrival, officers discovered Catchings inside the apartment displaying visible signs of a gunshot wound.
