Town Marshal John Manier, a law enforcement officer from Pretoria, Georgia, was tragically killed on April 15, 1905. While attempting to arrest a man for disturbing the peace, Marshal Manier was shot and fatally wounded. The suspect fled the scene, but a citizen who came to the marshal's aid fired at the fleeing suspect, hitting him twice. The suspect was captured the following day with bullet wounds in his hip and hand.
