In a tragic turn of events stemming from a seemingly trivial argument, 17-year-old Gonzalo Lamar Gonzalez-Abara lost his life in Lithia Springs, Georgia. The young male's life was cut short on June 10, 2019, inside a residence at the Lakeside Mobile Home Park located off Bankhead Highway. The dispute, which escalated with fatal consequences, was reportedly over a video game controller.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office was alerted to the situation around 12:45 a.m.
by a concerned citizen who reported hearing a loud noise and seeing a group of teenagers fleeing from a home in the mobile home park. Upon their arrival and subsequent investigation, deputies uncovered the grim reality of what had transpired. An argument between two teenagers had taken a deadly turn.
Investigations led to the arrest of Gabriel Cruz, also identified as Gabriel Martinez Cruz, of Lithia Springs. According to law enforcement, Cruz fired a handgun during the dispute, striking Gonzalez-Abara and causing his death. Cruz was taken into custody and faced charges of malice murder and tampering with evidence in connection with the fatal shooting. The case moved forward with Cruz as the primary suspect in the death of his friend, a life lost over a video game controller.
