Alberta Christine Williams King, a 69-year-old African American woman, was tragically murdered on June 30, 1974, in Atlanta, Georgia. She was the mother of the renowned civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and the wife of Martin Luther King Sr. On that fateful day, Alberta King was playing the organ during a Sunday service at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, where her family had long been involved.
