In the late summer of 1978, a dedicated 19-year-old male, Jesse Eugene Tanner, Jr., had been serving his community as a Deputy Sheriff with the Houston County Sheriff's Office for a year. His aspirations in law enforcement were well known among his friends, with whom he had shared his dream of one day joining the Secret Service. He was known as a hero to those who knew him, a young man taken from his loved ones far too soon.
