Death by Force

John Richard Sowa, a 28-year-old white male police officer, tragically lost his life on October 12, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia. Officer Sowa was responding to a domestic violence call at an apartment complex on Morosgo Way around 9:45 PM when he and his partner, Officer Patricia Cocciolone, were ambushed. Both officers were shot in the head upon arrival at the scene. Officer Sowa succumbed to his injuries, while Officer Cocciolone was critically wounded and left with permanent brain damage.
