On the evening of May 30, 1993, 18-year-old Charlye Dixon and her fiancé, 19-year-old Jason Hampton, were parked at a lakeside "lovers' lane" in Ware County, Georgia. Unbeknownst to them, Billy Daniel Raulerson Jr. approached their vehicle. Climbing onto the bed of Hampton's pickup truck, Raulerson opened fire with a .22 caliber rifle, shooting Hampton multiple times. As Dixon attempted to escape, Raulerson shot her as well.
