In the early morning hours of August 4, 2014, a night out in Sandy Springs, Georgia, turned tragic for 38-year-old Paul Anthony 'Paulie' Santos, Jr. The male victim was in the parking lot behind the Taboo 2 Bar & Bistro on Roswell Road when he was shot multiple times around 2 a.m. Emergency services transported Santos to North Fulton Hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Originally from New York and having recently moved to the Atlanta area for a promotion, Santos was known for his 'bigger than life' personality and great sense of humor. Friends and family affectionately called him 'Paulie' or 'P'. He was a father and was working as a Zone Supervisor for Aramark at the Savannah College of Art & Design at the time of his death.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Sandy Springs police began their investigation. They were looking for a person of interest who was seen leaving the nightclub shortly after the shooting. The suspect was described as a Black man who drove away from the scene in a sedan, which some reports specified as being white.
Despite the initial investigation and the description of a person of interest, public online sources have not reported any arrests in the years following the death of Paul Anthony Santos. The motive for the shooting was never publicly released. The case remains a painful and unresolved chapter for the friends and family of a man remembered for his infectious laugh and protective nature.
