In the late hours of a warm Friday, on September 11, 2015, the life of 20-year-old Demetrius Thomas, a Black male from Des Moines, Iowa, was tragically cut short. Thomas and a friend, 19-year-old Mohammad Nabeel Mirzai, were found shot to death in the Drake neighborhood, their bodies discovered just a block apart near 22nd Street and Forest Avenue.
