On the evening of August 16, 2014, May Araim, a 68-year-old Iraqi-American woman from Houston, Texas, was walking through the tourist town of Helen, Georgia, when her life was abruptly ended. Araim, who was wearing a traditional hijab, was struck in the side by a stray bullet and was pronounced dead at the scene. The shot came from across Main Street, where a man sitting on a bench had accidentally discharged a handgun.
