On the night of August 24, 2014, a 22-year-old African American man named Kadarius Deshawn Bailey was visiting with friends at the Rainwood Apartments on Harper Drive in Lake City, Georgia. He was sitting on a stairwell outside of Building 19, listening to music, when he was shot multiple times. Emergency services responded to a call for assistance at approximately 9:40 p.m. and discovered Bailey deceased at the scene.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Lake City Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Bailey's death. Known to his loved ones as 'KD,' Bailey was a father of three children. His family described him as a person who loved to make people laugh and enjoyed dancing and singing. In the years following his death, his family has made public pleas for anyone with information to come forward to bring them a sense of closure.
