In the quiet, early morning hours of September 3, 2014, in Morven, Georgia, the lives of two siblings, both dedicated corrections officers, were tragically cut short. Wilbur Jamal Mobley, a 27-year-old male, and his 25-year-old sister, Anisa Chantell Mobley, were found deceased from multiple gunshot wounds outside the home they shared with their parents. It is believed they were preparing to leave for their jobs at Valdosta State Prison when the incident occurred. Brooks County 911 received a call about shots fired at their Azalea Street residence at approximately 5:15 a.m. When deputies from the Brooks County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Morven Police Department arrived, they discovered the bodies of the brother and sister behind the house.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the inquiry into the double homicide. Initially, investigators had some leads but no immediate suspects or a clear motive for the killings. The law enforcement community and the family were left searching for answers as friends and family were interviewed for any clues that might lead to the perpetrator.
A break in the case came in December of that year when the Georgia Bureau of Investigation secured arrest warrants for a suspect. Anthony Ceasar, 33, of Valdosta, was charged with two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting deaths of Wilbur and Anisa Mobley. Ceasar was already in custody, having been arrested in September for a separate fatal shooting that occurred outside an Applebee's restaurant in Valdosta. His incarceration on the other charges provided investigators the time they needed to build a solid case against him for the Mobley siblings' murders.
