Pleasant Eugene Holt, a 55-year-old white male, served as the Night Marshal for the Villa Rica Police Department in Georgia. On the night of April 18, 1908, Holt was performing his duties when he encountered an intoxicated man who was recklessly firing a gun within the city limits.
