On a December evening, a family stroll at the Stone Brook Apartments in Clayton County, Georgia, turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of Jeremy Milbry. The 24-year-old father was with his family when a confrontation with another group erupted into a fatal shooting. An argument between the two groups escalated, and Milbry was shot in the back.
He was later pronounced dead at Southern Regional Medical Center.
In the immediate chaos following the gunshots, one of Milbry's brothers pursued the fleeing suspects and managed to detain one of them until law enforcement arrived. The subsequent investigation led Clayton County police to arrest two teenagers, a 15-year-old from Atlanta and a 16-year-old from College Park, who were both charged with murder and aggravated assault. Ultimately, Samad Wilson pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of voluntary manslaughter. He received a sentence of 20 years, with 15 to be served. Jeremy Milbry's mother expressed her profound disappointment with the outcome, stating that she felt justice was not served for her son due to the police mishandling of the confession.
