In a tragic series of events that unfolded in Cobb County, Georgia, 35-year-old Alexander Arcides Lara-Ayala of Smyrna lost his life. His body was discovered in a wooded area in Mableton on February 25, 2015, near Ivey Road at Vinings Vintage Road. The investigation into his death revealed a premeditated and brutal crime that had occurred two days prior.
Authorities determined that on February 23, 2015, Lara-Ayala was lured to the 6100 block of Blackhawk Trail in Mableton under false
pretenses. Chelsea Walker, 21, of Marietta, enticed him to the location with the intention of robbing him of his money. Waiting there was an ambush. He was shot and killed, and a truck found engulfed in flames nearby was also connected to the crime. The investigation quickly pointed to the involvement of a street gang known as the Ghostface Gangsters.
Within a short period, law enforcement officials made several arrests in connection with the murder. Four individuals, all associated with the Ghostface Gangsters, were taken into custody. Christopher Brewster, 25, of Austell; Jason Chester, 29, of Mableton; Kenneth Ransom, 39, of Austell; and Chelsea Walker were all charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and violation of Georgia's Criminal Street Gang Act. Brewster and Ransom faced additional charges for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Warrants revealed that Christopher Brewster was the one who shot and killed Lara-Ayala.
Ultimately, all four individuals were convicted for their roles in the murder. In October 2018, Jason Chester pleaded guilty to three gang counts and was sentenced to 25 years, with 15 to be served in prison. Shortly after, Chelsea Walker pleaded guilty to three gang-act violations and received a 40-year sentence, with 20 to be served in prison. In December 2018, Christopher Brewster and Kenneth Ransom pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including felony murder. They were both sentenced to life in prison. The successful prosecution of this case sent a strong message against gang-motivated violence in the community.
