In the spring of 2015, a tragedy unfolded in the small city of Americus, Georgia, leaving a community in mourning. On the morning of April 20th, a concerned employer's call to a relative led to a grim discovery. The bodies of 36-year-old Corey Willis and 24-year-old Quanesha Lashon Brown were found inside a residence on North Jackson Street. The two had been shot, their lives abruptly ended by an act of violence.
The relative of one of the victims made the discovery after being alerted that one of them had not shown up for work.
The same morning, the investigation into this double homicide took another dark turn. Authorities were led to a second location, an apartment on East Lester Street, where they found the body of another shooting victim, 44-year-old Tonya Annette Ross. As the Georgia Bureau of Investigation joined the Americus Police Department in the inquiry, a connection between the three slayings was being explored.
The search for the person responsible for these three deaths quickly focused on one individual. The day after the bodies were discovered, law enforcement identified a suspect and an arrest was made. Following a pursuit by Crisp County deputies, the suspect's vehicle came to a dead end. Before he could be taken into custody, the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Darrin Ross, turned a gun on himself. He was transported to a medical center for the self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators believed he was responsible for all three murders that had occurred on that Monday.
