In the small town of Adel, Georgia, the evening of Friday, December 11, 2015, was shattered by violence that ended the life of 52-year-old Dempsey Williams. That night, officers from the Adel Police Department were dispatched to a residence located at 814 Turkey Drive following a report of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Dempsey Williams inside the home, suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were rendered, and he was quickly transported to Cook Medical Center. Despite the efforts to save him, Williams succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The following day, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Douglas Regional Office was requested to assist the Adel Police Department in the homicide investigation. Their collaborative efforts quickly led to a breakthrough in the case. Law enforcement officials arrested 47-year-old Calvin Smith in connection with the fatal shooting. Smith was charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
