On the last day of 2019, tragedy struck in Adel, Georgia, when 29-year-old Cody Robinson, a male, was fatally shot. The incident, which also claimed the life of 34-year-old Quinten Payne, unfolded in the vicinity of 305 N. Adams Street. The Adel Police Department received a 911 call reporting the shooting and, upon arrival, discovered Payne deceased at the scene with gunshot wounds. Robinson had also sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Cody Robinson succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the hospital. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested to assist the Adel Police Department in the ensuing death investigation. Autopsies were scheduled to be performed at the GBI Medical Examiner's Office in Macon to determine the final causes of death for both Robinson and Payne.
The investigation into the double homicide led to the issuance of arrest warrants in February 2020. Shamar Wilson, aged 19, and Gerome Pickett, aged 17, along with a 16-year-old juvenile, were each charged with two counts of felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault. At the time the warrants were issued, Wilson and Pickett were already incarcerated in the Lowndes County jail on unrelated charges. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Further developments in the case occurred in May 2020, when an additional arrest was made. Tavares Askew, 19, was also charged with two counts of felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the deaths of Cody Robinson and Quinten Payne. Askew was being held in the Baldwin County Jail following his arrest. The investigation into the incident was described as active and ongoing.
