In the late afternoon of a February Saturday in 2016, a man lost his life in a grocery store parking lot near Marietta, Georgia. Corey Dwight Thomas, a 41-year-old from Lithia Springs, was shot while inside a car and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The incident, which unfolded just before 5:40 p.m. on February 27th, drew a swift response from Cobb County police.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect in the shooting death of the male victim.
His 35-year-old girlfriend, Crystal Vincent of Marietta, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal event. The preliminary investigation suggested that the shooting occurred during an argument between the couple as they sat in a parked car at the Save-A-Lot on Austell Road. It was during this dispute that Vincent allegedly produced a pistol and shot Thomas in the chest.
Following her arrest, Crystal Vincent was held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. She initially faced charges of aggravated assault and felony murder. By December of that year, a Cobb County grand jury handed down an indictment against Vincent, which included charges of malice and felony murder related to the death of Corey Thomas.
