In a tragic turn of events that unfolded in south Macon, a young man lost his life in a dispute that spiraled out of control. Tarus Fair, a 24-year-old male, was fatally shot on March 19, 2016. The incident that led to his untimely death began as a verbal argument that quickly escalated into a physical altercation and ultimately, a deadly exchange of gunfire.
The events of that fateful day transpired off of Cynthia Avenue, where an argument broke out between Quintavious Hutchings and
another man, Tony Ellis. The disagreement intensified, leading to a physical fight between the two. The confrontation reached a devastating climax when both men reportedly drew firearms and began shooting at one another. Tragically, Tarus Fair was caught in the crossfire and sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an investigation was launched, leading to legal proceedings against one of the individuals involved in the altercation. In June of 2016, a Bibb County grand jury handed down an indictment against Quintavious Hutchings, charging him with felony murder in connection with the death of Tarus Fair. The indictment formally accused Hutchings of causing Fair's death during the commission of a felony.
The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life cut short. Funeral services for Tarus L. Fair were held on March 25, 2016, at Antioch Baptist Church, followed by his burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family of the victim received condolences and support from friends and community members as they navigated the profound grief of their loss.
