In a quiet neighborhood in Savannah, Georgia, a workplace dispute escalated into a fatal encounter that claimed the life of 43-year-old Jason Scott Wood on the evening of June 16, 2016. The male victim was in the Georgetown neighborhood on Sagebrush Lane when an argument with a coworker turned violent.
Responding to the incident shortly after 8:00 p.m., Savannah-Chatham Metro Police arrived to a shooting scene.
Wood was found critically injured and was quickly transported to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The altercation was determined to have stemmed from a disagreement between Wood and his coworker.
Within minutes of their arrival, law enforcement officers were able to take a suspect into custody. The individual was identified as 50-year-old David Newman. Following the investigation into the shooting, Newman was formally charged in connection with Wood's death. The charges filed against him included one count of murder, one count of possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
