In the fall of 2021, the life of 18-year-old Antonio Jackson was cut short by a burst of gunfire in a Statesboro, Georgia apartment complex. On the evening of October 27th, police were called to The Vault Apartments on Statesboro Place Circle where they discovered the young man from Jesup, Georgia, deceased from gunshot wounds. Jackson was not a student at any local colleges and did not reside in Statesboro. Investigators at the scene quickly determined that multiple individuals were present inside the apartment at the time of the fatal shooting.
The ensuing investigation, which spanned approximately a month, led to a series of arrests. The Statesboro Police Department, through numerous interviews and the collection of physical evidence, began to piece together the events of that evening. The first arrest was made on November 3, 2021, when 20-year-old Damon Justin Jevon Hines of Jesup was taken into custody. Hines was charged with being a party to the crime of murder, in addition to felony theft by receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and other offenses.
Less than two weeks later, on November 13th, a second suspect, 18-year-old Kaliz Jamarson Hadley, also from Jesup, was arrested. He faced charges of being a party to the crime of murder, tampering with evidence, and marijuana possession with intent to distribute. The investigation continued to unfold, and soon after, 22-year-old Deavonte Marquice Andrews of Jesup was apprehended. His charges included being a party to the crime of murder, tampering with evidence, and making false statements.
The primary suspect, 18-year-old Tyrezz Armon Jones of Allenhurst, was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault. A fifth individual, 21-year-old Treg Molique Patterson of Jesup, was also sought and eventually apprehended. He was charged with being a party to the crime of murder and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Court records from Bulloch County confirm that all five individuals were indicted on charges including malice murder and felony murder. The investigation suggested that the suspects were also involved with stolen firearms, drugs, and attempts to conceal evidence and provide false information to law enforcement. During the course of the homicide investigation, several other individuals connected to the defendants were arrested on various drug and firearm-related offenses.
