In the late hours of a November evening in 2016, a life was tragically cut short in Smyrna, Georgia. Shawn Moore, a 30-year-old male, was fatally shot in an upstairs room at the Cumberland Lodge on South Cobb Drive. Friends who were with him at the time rushed him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he succumbed to the gunshot wound.
The incident, which occurred on November 27, left his family seeking answers and justice for what they described as a senseless act of violence.
In the immediate aftermath, family members informed law enforcement that they had information regarding the person they believed to be responsible for Moore's death. This information, coupled with the police investigation, quickly pointed to a single suspect. Investigators identified 33-year-old Troy Lann of Marietta as the individual they believed was responsible for the fatal shooting. However, by the time authorities moved to apprehend him, Lann had already fled the area, prompting a multi-state search.
The manhunt for Troy Lann concluded just a few days later. Acting on developed leads and through surveillance operations, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Squad and the United States Marshals Southeast Fugitive Task Force tracked Lann to his mother's residence in Chester County, South Carolina. On December 2, investigators took Lann into custody without incident. He subsequently waived extradition and was promptly returned to Cobb County, Georgia, to face legal proceedings. Lann was booked into the local jail and charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the shooting death of Shawn Moore.
