He was immediately transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries a few days later, on July 5, 2021.

The investigation into Zachary's death led to significant developments over time. On February 2, 2024, Fresno police arrested 25-year-old Gabriel Flores in connection with the murder. Flores was identified by homicide investigators as one of the suspects responsible for the fatal shooting. The investigation also revealed two additional suspects: 20-year-old Noel Pina Leon and 30-year-old Israel Luna. Both Leon and Luna have outstanding arrest warrants for their involvement in the murder.
