On a tragic afternoon in Marietta, Georgia, the life of 30-year-old Euclides Guinato-Bernardes was cut short in a violent sequence of events. On December 23, 2013, police responded to a 911 call at the Ivy Ridge apartment complex. Inside one of the units, they discovered the bodies of Guinato-Bernardes, a female, and two others in what was determined to be a double murder-suicide.
Investigations by the Cobb County Police Department revealed a grim picture of the preceding moments.
Evidence and statements from witnesses indicated that 45-year-old Pericles Demoura had entered the apartment and shot Guinato-Bernardes. Guinato-Bernardes was the boyfriend of Demoura's ex-girlfriend, 35-year-old Thelma Vinhal, who was also present in the apartment.
After shooting Guinato-Bernardes, Demoura then turned his weapon on Vinhal, fatally shooting her as well. The violence culminated with Demoura taking his own life. The incident stemmed from the past relationship between Demoura and Vinhal. As the perpetrator died at the scene, there were no subsequent arrests or trial in connection with the deaths of Euclides Guinato-Bernardes and Thelma Vinhal.
