In a quiet Lilburn, Georgia, neighborhood, the life of 21-year-old Curtis Oldham was tragically cut short on December 17, 2016. The young man, a white male with aspirations of joining the Navy and pursuing a degree in computer science, was found shot in the passenger seat of a car in the parking lot of a daycare. His girlfriend, who was driving the vehicle, had pulled into the lot to seek help. Oldham was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Oldham's death quickly pointed to a drug deal that had taken a violent turn. Authorities believe the actual shooting occurred at a different location, and the daycare was merely a place of desperation for the driver. The case took a significant turn when police identified 15-year-old Caziah Brown as the primary suspect. After an intensive manhunt, a SWAT team apprehended Brown in Lawrenceville. He was subsequently charged with felony murder and aggravated assault.
Further investigation revealed a chilling account of the events that led to Oldham's death. It is believed that Brown had arranged to buy marijuana from Oldham, but the transaction was a setup for a robbery. Oldham's girlfriend told police that Brown reached into the car, dropped a counterfeit $100 bill, and fired a single shot. Following the shooting, Brown and two other individuals were allegedly involved in the armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver, stealing his car, phone, and the pizza he was delivering. This subsequent crime helped lead investigators to Brown.
