In a quiet subdivision in unincorporated Lilburn, Georgia, the night of Saturday, June 1, 2024, was shattered by the sounds of gunfire and screams. Around 11:30 p.m., concerned neighbors in the vicinity of Gwens Trail placed calls to 911. When Gwinnett County police officers arrived at the 3000 block of Betty Jean Court, they discovered the body of 28-year-old Terrence Weston, a male resident of nearby Lawrenceville. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation into the death of Terrence Weston quickly pointed to a motive that appeared to be drug-related. Detectives from the Gwinnett County Police Department worked to piece together the events that led to the deadly shooting. Their investigation led them to a suspect, a 16-year-old from Lawrenceville named Ryan Abreu.
Following their initial investigation, police arrested Ryan Abreu in connection with the homicide. Despite his age, authorities have decided to charge him as an adult. Abreu faces a series of serious charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a person under the age of 18, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was taken into custody pending further legal proceedings.
