On a summer evening in August 2020, the life of 22-year-old Julius Vance of Snellville, a male, was cut short in a burst of gunfire in unincorporated Lilburn, Georgia. The incident, which police believe was drug-related, unfolded in the 700 block of Beaver Ruin Road and resulted in two other men being wounded.
The chaotic scene began around 7:30 p.m. when Lilburn police officers, who were working an off-duty job nearby, heard gunshots. Responding to the sound, they discovered one man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The investigation soon led them to two other victims who had fled the initial location. One man was found in the bed of a pickup truck more than a mile away on Burns Walk Court, having been shot in the chest. The driver of the truck was unaware that the injured man had jumped into the back of his vehicle to escape. A third victim, who had been shot multiple times, was located at a residence on Cliffglen Way. All three victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Days after the shooting, Julius Vance succumbed to his injuries. The Gwinnett County Police Department launched a homicide investigation, which led to the identification of a suspect. In November 2020, the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department's fugitive squad located and arrested Christopher Jean-Pierre, then 22, of Lawrenceville. He was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. At the time of Jean-Pierre's arrest, authorities stated that the investigation was still active and that they were continuing to follow up on leads. The other two victims of the shooting survived their injuries.
