In the Eagles Landing subdivision of Hinesville, Georgia, a confrontation on February 15, 2017, turned fatal for 19-year-old Clyde Austin Weeks. The young man, known for his artistic talents and fierce loyalty, was fatally shot after an altercation that reportedly began when he stood up for a friend. The incident unfolded shortly after 5 p.m. on Jubail Drive, forever altering the lives of those involved.
Clyde, a father to a young daughter with another child on the way, was remembered for his quick wit and his deep love for those around him. His friends and family described him as a deeply spiritual person with an insatiable desire to learn and understand the world. That evening, Clyde and a friend had just left a residence on Jubail Drive when a blue Dodge allegedly driven by 21-year-old Philemon S. Jackson pulled up. An exchange of words escalated, during which Jackson allegedly put a gun to the head of Clyde's friend. Clyde reportedly urged Jackson to put the gun down so they could settle the matter 'like men.' A fight ensued, and as Clyde and his friend began to run, multiple shots were fired.
When police and emergency medical personnel arrived, they found Clyde on the ground with a gunshot wound to his abdomen and no pulse. Despite the efforts of his friend and first responders, he was pronounced dead at Liberty Regional Medical Center. The investigation led to the arrest of Philemon Jackson, who was subsequently charged with murder, three counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
In the following months, the legal process began to unfold. A judge set Philemon Jackson's bond at $500,000 cash or $1 million property and ordered the case to be heard by a grand jury. In April 2018, Jackson entered a plea of not guilty to the charges against him.
