On a spring afternoon in Thomson, Georgia, the life of Frederick Brooks, a 45-year-old African American man from Decatur, was cut short by gunfire. On May 11, 2017, just after 5 p.m., the sound of shots fired in the 900 block of Kennedy Circle prompted calls to local authorities. When officers from the Thomson Police Department arrived at the residence, they found Brooks with fatal gunshot wounds.
